The edgy and intellectual paintings of Carrie Ann Baade are quickly gaining recognition around the world. Through myths and monsters, Baade explores the complexity of the human condition within her imaginative portraits. These trompe l’oeil oil paintings are rich with allegorical meta-narratives inspired by literature and art history. She has traveled around the globe in search of inspiration; her works manifest history painting into an entirely original vision, rich with the confluence of cultures and time periods.

Baade was nominated for the prestigious United States Artist Fellowship in 2007. Her work is featured in Metamorphosis, a survey of top contemporary Surrealists including Ernst Fuchs, Alex Grey, Laurie Lipton, Chet Zar, Kris Kuksi, and Brom. She will be featured again in the third book in this series on female surrealists, to be released in 2009. In 2005, she received a National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship granted through the Delaware Division of the Arts. Baade received her B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her Masters in Painting from the University of Delaware. Her artwork was featured on the covers of Not Quite One of the Boys by Vincent Sakowskiand Text:UR, an anthology of contemporary fiction titled The Book of Masks. Her work has been reviewed in the NY ARTS Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Austin Chronicle, The Independent, and Philadelphia Today. In 2007, her solo exhibitions were at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art and The Ningbo Art Museum of China. Her upcoming exhibits include shows at Billy Shire Fine Art in Los Angeles and Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia in 2009.

Carrie is currently an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at Florida State University accompanied by her singing, polydactyl cat.
