Childhood aspirations of pursuing marine biology or paleontology notwithstanding, Paul Minoru Komoda was richly inspired by his viscerally disturbing dreams and lifelong obsession with monsters, committing his life to fleshing out the voracious, writhing substance of his visions through graphic and sculptural manifestation.

Attending New York’s School of Visual Arts, he took courses in illustration and Comics, though he found a greater interest in sculpting, of which he is completely self-taught.

Never satisfied with adhering to one medium of expression, he subsequently indulged his creative impulses in several directions over the years, doing work for DC, Marvel, Wizards of the Coast and artist, H.R. Giger.  During his time spent in New York’s underground scene he fabricated his own style of fashionable menace in the twisted form of rings and pendants, created obsessively detailed, ultraviolent album artwork, rendered erotic/grotesque magazine illustration, and developed an aggressively elegant form of graphic, anatomically inspired body art .

Current activities include forays into creature design and makeup effects for film and stage. He has recently gained notoriety through the eldritch, weathered sketchbook he carries which has, through time, become an entity unto itself, being frequently described as a contemporary Necronomicon.

He is momentarily living in Philadelphia working relentlessly to make the world a creepier place.
